Outside The Pub
The pub in sunlight
A butterfly flips by
A pheasant honks
A gentle breeze disturbs the poplars
- Distracting
With the day so still

A car blasts by
Dust flies
The crossword lies abandoned
Just too hot to think

If you were with me
We would talk
Of empty things Of shallow grievances with flies
We could not hold each other
Such is the heat

I think of you in cooler times
I think deep thoughts
I wish that we could share
